  • Why are students tested for Special Education?

    There are a variety of reasons to be tested for special education. Primarily, students are tested when they have been struggling to learn despite academic interventions and medical issues that make access to education difficult. If you feel that your child needs to be tested for Special Education, please contact the Special Education teacher, Classroom teacher, or the Principal.

  • How do I know my child is being tested for Special Education?

    A student cannot be tested for Special Education without parent/guardian permission. The parents/guardians are the only ones who can give permission to test. If the parents have not given permission, the student will not be tested for Special Education.

  • What is an IEP?

    IEP stands for Individual Education Plan. If a student qualifies for Special Education the team will meet a minimum of once a year to make an educational plan for the student for the following IEP year.

  • Who is part of the Special Education team?

    Special  Education is a team approach. All decisions require a team decision. The team consists of the parents/guardians, special education teacher, administration, and classroom teacher. Depending on the individual student's needs, there may also be a school psychologist, speech and language pathologist, counselor, etc.

  • What is an ER?

    ER stands for Evaluation Report. The ER is a meeting between the referral team (parents, administration, classroom teacher, special education teacher) analyzing the data collected on your child to determine if they qualify for special education. An ER is mandatory to consider qualification for the Special Education program.
